German Society of Human Genetics Honors de la Chapelle
GERMAN SOCIETY OF HUMAN GENETICS HONORS OSU RESEARCHER -- Albert de la Chapelle, MD, PhD, co-leader of the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center's Molecular Biology and Cancer Genetics Program, has won the 2006 German Society of Human Genetics Medal of Honor. He accepted the award March 8 at the Society's annual congress in Heidelberg, Germany, where he lectured on a proposal to screen all colorectal cancer patients for predisposing mutations. The German Society of Human Genetics introduced the award in 2003 as its highest accolade. The award honors internationally renowned scientists who have made a significant contribution to human genetics. A member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and a Distinguished University Professor at OSU, de la Chapelle has devoted much of his life to studying the relationship between genetic mutations and disease. He has authored more than 950 articles, review papers, editorials, letters and book chapters.
