About the Bioinformatics Consulting Unit

The Bioinformatics Consulting Unit offers consultation to the investigators of HCG for the use of computational biology and bioinformatics tools and methods, such as:

  1. Statistical analyses of data from high throughput gene expression studies (Affymetrix gene expression and SNP genotyping arrays, cDNA arrays, RLGS, Promoter Arrays and Chip-on-ChIP assays). We use publicly available tools such as DchiP, CLUSTER, SAM, and in-house developed statistical modules written in Splus for the analyses.
  2. Provide assistance with annotation of genes and gene regulatory regions, such as promoters and transcription factor binding sites.
  3. Large scale promoter analyses of mammalian genes in order to identify transcriptional modules and regulatory networks.  Among the publicly available tools we utilize are our in-house developed Mammalian Promoter Database (MPromDb), Hematopoiesis Promoter Database (HemoPDB), and First Exon Finder, FirstEF, which predicts the first exon and promoter regions in the human genome based on discriminant analysis.
