The Human Cancer Genetics (HCG) Program was established in 1997 to drive cancer research at the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) to outstanding standards.  Under the leadership of Dr. de la Chapelle (1997-2004), the HCG Program reached international recognition as a center for cancer genetics research. In 2005, Dr Carlo Croce, an internationally renowned geneticist, took the helm of the Program to catapult it yet higher on the international ladder.  During this period, more than 25 faculty members have established active research groups focusing on basic, translational and clinical cancer research. The diverse interests of HCG faculty are also reflected in the number of interactions with basic, translational and clinical collaborators outside of HCG. These interests have led to numerous cancer-related projects now headed by investigators inside and outside of HCG (see Table 4). With the growing recognition of HCG at the Ohio State University campus, laboratories within the HCG Program have become attractive places for undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to carry out cutting-edge research.
